Final results from the CMS collaboration on the Higgs boson before restarting the LHC

on the July 5, 2014

On July 3, 2014, the physicists from the CMS experiment presented the final results of the the first data set of the LHC concerning the study of the properties of the Higgs boson discoverd at the CERN in 2012.

The existence of the Higgs boson is confirmed and it's identity card is being deciphered.

The results of the CMS experiment concern data on proton-proton collisions recorded in 2011 and 2012 at an energy at the center of mass of 7 and 8 TeV following calibration and the detector constants after its final alignment.

An ensemble of 9 papers published in 2014 presents the measurements of the mass of the Higgs boson, m(H) = 125.03 ± 0.30 GeV, of its couplings to fermions and to bosons, and of its spin and parity.  All these results are in excellent agreement with predictions using the standard model of particle physics.

The physicists at the IPNL are particularly involved with study of the modes of Higgs boson disintegration into 2 photons and of the electromagnetic calorimetry that allows study of this pathway.
